Boy Eats Girl
We decided to watch "Boy Eats Girl" because we had both heard good things about it, however it ended up being a huge let down. We felt it had more of a "teeny bopper flick" feel to it as opposed to a zombie movie. For a zombie movie, the teen drama over powered the "zombie-ness" for lack of a better word!
The reason we decided to give this movie a half decent rating, was because some of the zombie attacks/killings made us laugh, and there were some good gory zombie scenes. Some of our favourite scenes included one scene where the cute innocent old woman, who plays the teenagers teacher is riding away from a horde of zombies on her vespa. The woman passes one of the most annoying characters in the movie and tells her to "f@$& off!" then immediately crashes- woops!
Another scene we found funny enough to consider a favourite scene, was when the mother of the main character gets attacked by a zombie priest and defends herself by using a live poisonous snake! Lastly, when the main character Nathan rips off a zombies head with his bare hands, made for a pretty well done gory scene that gained higher points for the movie.
Overall, we expected a lot more from this movie, it seemed like more of an Irish episode of a Saturday morning teen sitcom. The ending was weak, since all the zombies seemed to disappear as soon as the main character was cured.
Melissa's rating: 5/10 "I would never put a poisonous snake in my glove compartment, just sayin'! "
James' rating: 5/10 "Why do some of the Irish teenagers look like they're in their mid 40's?!"

Zombie
We thought this film could have used just a little more blood and gore however the scenes where there was gore were very well done! This movie has a lot of similarities to "Zombie Holocaust." Both movies begin with an incident in New York that leads to the main characters going to a tropical island to seek the truth. This movie shares footage, locations, and actors with "Zombie Holocaust," although was far better, and had a classic "Dawn of the Dead" feel to it. We personally would have enjoyed the movie better if it had taken place in New York city as opposed to a tropical island, however Lucio Fulci pulled it off a lot better than Marino Girolami did in "Zombie Holocaust." The story was difficult to follow at times, but the ending was a lot more satisfying and left us wanting more.
Our favourite scenes from "Zombie" were the scene where the unnecessarily topless 70's babe goes scuba diving and encounters both a shark, and a zombie! This leads to an amazingly well done scene where the zombie attacks the shark, and they both try to eat each other! Another great scene is when the doctors wife experiences a thrilling zombie attack in her own home. She barricades herself in her bedroom, when suddenly a zombie breaks through, grabs her hair and pulls her through the broken door causing her to be stabbed in the eye by a piece of broken wood!
Melissa's rating: 6/10 "Zombies vs. Jaws!"
James' rating: 6/10 "Classic zombie fun!"
Zombie Holocaust
Aka "Dr. Butcher M.D", which in our opinion should have been the name of the movie. First things first, the name is very deceiving because in a movie called "Zombie Holocaust" there is a serious lack of zombies. Most of the "zombie attacks" were actually done by naked Asian cannibals with the same haircut. The movie dragged big time, however you do get to see some classic looking zombies but it doesn't last too long. The gore was all thanks to the evil experiments of "Dr. Butcher M.D (Medical Deviate)" and the ending was extremely weak, explaining nothing (including how the female lead somehow managed to escape being a human sacrifice at the hands of the cannibals.)
Our favourite part was when the two remaining main characters are attacked by one of the better looking zombies on the beach and the zombie is killed by having an outboard motor shoved into his face!
Melissa's rating: 3.5/10 "This movie is a liar!"
James' rating: 3/10 "Better luck next time!"
Dead Alive
For our first entry, we decided to review the classic zombie movie, "Dead Alive."
The film was released in 1992, and directed by Peter "Lord of the Rings" Jackson.
We both agreed the movie took a while to get to the zombie action, however it was well worth the wait. We decided to give the film two thumbs up for gore, since it may well be the goriest zombie film we have ever seen to date. "Dead Alive" has a very "Sam Raimi feel" and is extremely reminiscent of the "Evil Dead" trilogy. The zombie makeup was very well done, and there were a lot of zombies which was a definite plus!
Some of our favourite scenes were the graveyard fight scene where the awesome kung-fu priest "kicks ass for the lord" before being impaled on a gravestone and when Lionel brutally massacres a horde of zombies with a lawnmower! So much blood!
Melissa's rating: 8/10 "Add it to your zombie collection!"
James' rating: 8/10 "A must see for any zombie lover!"
